The ZMT is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Agostino Merico as a Professor of Ecological Modelling as of March 1st 2010. In this position, Agostino Merico will develop new directions in ecological research with a focus on cross-disciplinary approaches in the study of tropical ecosystems. His research group will integrate climate-driven changes in ecosystem structure and the associated impacts on biogeochemical cycles, into a human perspective. Dr. Merico will teach "Fundamental processes in Ecology" in a newly established study program titled "Integrated Environmental Studies" at Jacobs University Bremen.
Agostino Merico studied Physics at the University of Turin, Italy, and received his PhD in Ocean and Earth Science from the University of Southampton, UK, in 2003. He did his first postdoctoral experience at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton. Between 2005 and 2010, Dr. Merico was Research Scientist at the GKSS Research Centre in Geesthacht, Germany.
