Department of Biogeochemistry / Geology

Crucial for the development of efficient coastal management strategies is a better understanding of the biogeochemical processes that occur within ecosystems, their interactions as well as their response to natural and anthropogenic perturbations at different time scales.

Research at the ZMT focuses on a better understanding of the biogeochemical fluxes and cycling of elements along the river-sea continuum, encompassing the watershed, mangroves, sea grass meadows, reefs and the adjacent open sea.
