Sino-German Initiative on Marine Sciences

The aim of this initiative is to build a joint English-language graduate program in the marine sciences between the Ocean University of China in Qingdao with German universities in Bremen and Kiel and their affiliated research institutes.

The focus is the implementation of a Master Program with a double degree. Accompanying the program are summer school programs on various topics, which are organized for graduate students of both countries. Since 2008, the cooperation has also included the creation of a joint doctoral program and the exchange of guest scientists.

The above activities will contribute to the internationalization of the university systems and to the intensification of contacts between their students and scientists.

The initiative is supported by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research and the Chinese Ministry of Education. Particularly, support is through the provision of travel and subsistence grants (grant period: 01.09.2004 - 30.09.2011).
