The ZMT is pleased to announce the appointment of Achim Schlüter as a Professor for Social Systems and Ecological Economics. He and his group will focus on institutional conditions and necessities for a sustainable use of tropical marine resources.
Achim Schlüter is particularly interested in different sets of institutions and organizations governing a resource and the implication they have on the behavioral patterns of actors in collective action processes. Particularly deviations from the conventionally assumed economic behavior are of interest. For studying those issues qualitative, survey and experimental techniques will be used. Additionally to his duties at the ZMT, Achim Schlüter will be an Associate Professor at the “School of Humanities and Social Sciences” at the Jacobs University in Bremen.
Achim Schlüter studied Economics in Marburg (Germany) and Córdoba (Argentina). He received his PhD at the Chair of Resource Economics at the Humboldt-University of Berlin, then worked as a post-doc at the “School of Geography and Social Sciences” at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. From 2003 until recently he held the position of an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Forestry Economics at the Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg (Germany).
