The ZMT hosts and supervises undergraduate and graduate students from Germany and abroad, to carry out their research at the ZMT or within one of our projects in tropical countries.

Foreign students working toward a degree at the ZMT typically receive financial support from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), other foundations or their home institutions. Applications for financial support should be submitted directly to the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in the country of origin - or to the German Embassy (in countries without a DAAD office).
Upon request, the ZMT can provide special training on selected subjects related to aquatic tropical ecology. In ideal cases, the training is given on-the-job, i.e. directly working on an actual scientific problem in one of our partnership projects in the tropics, or on samples from our projects in the ZMT laboratory and at the aquaculture unit. The time frame can be between one month and one year. Participants may also be put into contact with partner institutes if particular topics are not covered by the expertise of the ZMT.
The ZMT is prepared to host a limited number of internships per year for natural sciences students and CTA- / BTA-school students. Because most of its projects are conducted in tropical countries, internships in Bremen are usually offered within our laboratories. Nevertheless, a limited number of internships may also be offered within the framework of foreign expeditions.
